Week 2, Term 2

Good morning everyone,

Welcome to the first full week for the term...I hope that winter sports all went off without a hitch and your children enjoyed themselves!

Character Strength of the Week...

St Phillip Neri was known from a young boy as being joyous.

While being known to help others, he was also well known for his funny pranks, for reading joke books, and playing the “clown” in general.

His joviality knew no bounds and he was always laughing and causing others to laugh.

WHAT IS HUMOR?

Humor means to recognize what is amusing in situations, and to offer the lighter side to others. Humor is an important lubricant to social interactions, and can contribute to team building or moving toward group goals.

Where other strengths are more or less essential for achieving certain types of goals or dealing with certain types of problems, humor is rarely an essential component to positive social interactions, but it is often a desirable one. It is also a valuable method of coping with distressing situations.

Humor involves the ability to make other people smile or laugh. It also means having a composed and cheerful view on adversity that allows an individual to see its light side and thereby sustain a good mood.

A few reminders for the week ahead...

Early Arrival - Just a reminder that on occasion, if your child needs to be dropped at school earlier than 8.25am, we ask that you direct them to head straight to the main courtyard to be supervised. They are not wait outside classrooms or play any games.

If they are attending any of our amazing early morning programs, they are to wait at the designated meeting point to meet their teacher.

Reconciliation Child/Parent Workshop - We are looking forward to coming together on Tuesday, 2nd May beginning at 5.30pm in the hall.

All candidates making their reconciliation are expected to attend with at least one parent, both if possible.

If you are unable to make this meeting, please let me know as soon as possible.

Year 3 Family & Reconciliation Commitment Mass:
ALL families are expected to attend our Year 3 family mass on Saturday 6th May beginning at 6pm at Our Lady of the Southern Cross.

It will be a great chance to meet our new priest, Fr Archie...he popped in to say hello on Friday and is very excited to be participating in the next step of your child's faith journey!

The P&F generously supply some pizzas for after mass so a nice chance to have a slice and catch up with other families.

Again, if you are unable to attend mass on Saturday, please let me know as soon as possible.

OLC Dance Concert (Mrs Ellie Haines):
Friday 16th June (Week 8) at 11am.

Hello Families, if you are planning to be away at all this Term and/or away for the Dance Concert, can you please email me, ellie.haines@cewa.edu.au so I can plan accordingly.

I only get to see your children for 1 hour a week and have had a lot of students telling me that they will be away this term/for the concert etc. but need confirmation from parents please.

Thank you- Mrs Haines

Homework...

We set up our books for the new term on Friday, some students didn't have their books with them but were given sheets in a plastic sleeve to bring home ready to glue in.

Students are expected to complete the following:

Mental Maths/Operations Review:
There are 4 columns to be completed over the week...it is up to your child to work out the best way for them to do this.

Some students like to do a column each night, others prefer to get it all out the way...I am not worried as long as all columns are completed and ready to be marked on Friday morning.

Reading:
Your child is asked to read each night (at least 2 nights out loud to you) and then choose 1 question to answer...this helps your child to remember what it is they have read and build those comprehension skills that are so important.

All homework is due in on Friday morning.

Thank you all for a a great start to the term, looking forward to the week ahead!
